Can modular houses be extended in the future?

3 min read

A house like from blocks – what does the extension involve?

A modular construction is self-supporting. This means that each module is a strong, independent cage. Thanks to this, the extension of a modular house is technically much simpler than in the case of masonry technology, where you have to break through walls, pour new foundations, and destroy the garden with heavy equipment.

At System-S, we design houses with the future in mind (so-called prepared technological openings). You can start with a "Start" module (e.g., a living room with a kitchenette + bathroom, approx. 35m2). When the family grows, you order a "Bedrooms" module, which we add on the side or – if the structure allows – we place on top, creating a second floor.

Also check out our projects for houses without a permit in the 'Modern Barn' style – modern, functional, and ready for quick implementation, ideal for people who value simplicity and space.

What does the joining of residential modules look like?

The process is quick and clean:

  1. We prepare point foundations for the new module.
  2. The factory produces the new part (fully finished).
  3. A crane adds the element.
  4. The assembly team removes the "plug" in the wall of the existing house and merges the installations (electrical and plumbing are prepared for connection).
  5. We perform flashing and facade work at the joint.

Advantages of a growing house

This is an ideal solution in uncertain times. You don't tie up capital in empty "guest" rooms that are used once a year. You build as much as you need now. Adding a module is also a great option for seniors (building a separate module for parents) or for a home office when your company grows.

Flexibility is security

By choosing a modular house with the option of extension, you gain financial freedom. You don't have to build a villa right away. You can start with a cozy apartment on your own plot and expand it at a pace dictated by your life, not your loan.
